Introduction

  • a rare scaly chronic red/orange rash with thickening and scaling of the palms and soles forming palmoplantar keratoderma
  • classic forms usually go away in 3 to 5 years with or without treatment
  • atypical forms may last over 20 years and often have an eczematous component

Epidemiology

  • ~60% affect adults - most often affects adults between 50 and 70 years of age
  • ~40% affect children 1)
  • inherited forms of PRP are very rare

Clinical features

  • 6 main types
  • scaly chronic red/orange rash with thickening
  • scaling of the palms and soles forms palmoplantar keratoderma
  • mildly itchy
  • can progress to cover most of the body
  • can cause ectropion of the eyelid
